In car camera

Looking at buying a new camera. Has anyone here tried the Sony AS30V? Specs look good but wondering what its like in practical use.

Great idea getting a new camera Peter. Baskerville will be a bloody good testing ground for it

I have a Contour GPS, it's not great, works when it feels like it. If I had my time over, I'd go for a Gopro anyday. Great quality footage and microphones :)

This is on a Radcam HD, youtube reduced quality, however without the rolling jitters/wobbliness of a gopro. . Original HD looks very good

I've got the HD20. To be honest, mine has a problem but I haven't taken the time to send it back. If i'm feeling rich one day i might get one of the new ones as they look pretty good and then stick the old one in a more dangerous location!

I went for one of these over a gopro as i can't stand the 'wobble' that is apparently near on impossible to get rid of.

I've got the go-pro with roll cage mount, doesn't appear to have the wobble. I'd previously borrowed a Contour and it was good too.

Scott my Hero 3 Black doesn't wobble at all. It's generally the older 1's and 2's or if you have them on the slower frame rate

Have you upgraded since this one? I will admit it's better than the older gopros, but the wobble is still very evident.

No but previous run I stuffed up switching it on the remote and switched it into still camera mode and switching it back to movie mode I cocked up and slowed the frame rate
The one from Bathurst is fine except for the mount moving

This one? ... wobble is unmissable, classic cmos rolling shutter. And yes, the Radcam is Cmos as well, but seems to exhibit less wobble. I'm pretty sure Darrin runs a Radcam

Scott turn the volume up and listen, that rolling is the mount flopping around due to vibration and when it gets worse you can here the whole car resonating which ended up being the beginning of the bellhousing falling apart shacking the whole car to death

I ended up buying the Sony. Dont think its as quite good as the Drift that I have though. The drift has exposure and mic sensitivity adjustment as well as the rotating lens. The gps and wifi on the Sony is a bonus though. Just need to learn how to overlay the gps data on the video. Unfortunately didnt get much footage due to mechanical woes.

Never been particularly happy with my RadCam HD20. Poor audio (might be a cable issue), colour shift on the image and generally not a crisp a picture as it should be. Had to replace the camera head also due to breaking some of the delicate plug pins.

Happy with my go cam for $150 bucks except the microphone suffers a lot of wind noise.

Decided to go with the cheaper camera and spent $80 bucks on a gorilla mount so it never falls off the rally car!
