Pinto vs xflow starters

Postby atd350 » Sat Oct 06, 2012 11:03 pm

Hi all, can I use the same starter for both engines? I am wiring up now for an old school xflow starter and external solenoid On a 1600. But plan to swap in a pinto soon. So the question is, can I buy a new style pinto starter and use it on the xflow? That way no wiring changes later, plus more reliable/ powerful starting going forward. Any help is much appreciated. Cheers

No, totally different, but through careful planning you could probably use the same wiring.

Hi,

if you use a pre-engaged ringgear (135 teeth) and an alloy bellhousing you can use one of the reduction starters from a Sierra or Scorpio (pinto engined, don't know if you have these models). This is what I have on the BDA.
