Gearbox crossmember???????

Postby jackho74 » Tue Jul 17, 2012 5:13 pm

Gday all, wondering if anyone can assist, what crossmember for the gearbox do you use when fitting a pinto and 4speed into a mk1? the powertrain came out of an "80" model mk2 and the gear stick lines up perfectly with the existing hole in the trans tunnel. The mk1 was originally an 1100 4speed. Does anyone make a crossmember? I have heard an auto mk2 crossmember might fit but unsure if this is right. Thanks in advance, i know a lot of you have done this conversion so someone must have had this drama before!!

Three Ford gearbox crossmembers exist for the early escort.
The standard manuals use a W pattern, Auto type are straight or bomeraang shape.
The Mk1 and Mk2 manual W type are the same? So the old Mk1 mount should suit.
I have a straight type available, if you think it might work.

One of the factory mounts will work. What is the distance across the tunnel between the bolt mount centres? Does the mount on the gearbox casing line up with the centreline of the mounting bolt holes? Or is it offset?
