Compliance testing!

Hi guys,
Im moving to NSW soon and im trying to bring my car!
has any body out there had to do a compliance on a english ford escort mk 3 1982/1986?
There are lots of ADRS but which ones affect my vehicle!
any help with this would be great,

Hi Carl,

Welcome to the forum and congrats on the upcoming move to the best country in the world.

Mark Cogan did this a few years ago and might be able to help. I know there is 30 yr cut-off for compliance requirements so at 1982 you'd be right on the limit. I'm sure some of the other forum members will be able with more accurate information.

I have asked about this subjects on other sites but just get people telling me I can import my car!!
I imported my car to canada 5 years ago all I had to do was stick on amber reflectors to the front wings and red to the rear!
No taxes etc.

Welcome Carl. Not many MK3 Escorts in the country so you will get a fair bit of attention. Unfortunately I don't think that getting compliance here will be quite as smooth as Canada. Bureaucratic red tape is a form of sport in this country!!!

yes was not too much work to do on the car as they were ok with euro specs! Had to change headlamps to LHD, fit daytime running lamps, some reflectors lol.
Yes OZ has lots of red tape and taxes but well worth paying when its sunny all day, no one wanting to steal or damage your car, insurance companies who want to charge you extra 25% for every mod on your car it be a air filter or wheel change!!
The last time I insured my car in the uk it was £1400 for the year! And thats with max no claims, no points etc,where as my new merc slk was only £500! Please note that £1400 was club insurance as most other companies will not insure them!!
And your cars dont rust away like you get in the uk!! Lol
i think your all lucky to live in Oz

Didn't know he had a Merc too, if that is a UK car and meets "Personal Import" rules, then that would be a good thing to bring with him, as it will have a much higher value here than in the UK, if it is a LHD from Canada, then it's not worth the aggravation.

There are loads of taxes, import duties, cleaning charges, fees for compliance work, and all sorts of other slush funds that most people pay when bringing cars into Australia, but if you are prepared to do the work, not take any sh1t from people and deal with the import in an organised manner, then many of the ridiculous fees can be reduced or avoided.

an application should take no longer than 3 weeks according to their website and verbal advice, Mine took 2 weeks in February, the application form is only 2 pages and can be downloaded from the net.

Really! Yes I filled in the two page form only two questions for the pre 1989 system, and yes you scan and email it into them! And then two weeks later they email you back asking you to fill in more etc!!
and four week later im still waiting! I guess you were just lucky!
