Contry to the pictures they have used an injection head and fitted 46.5mm inlets on my head. The ports are significantly smaller than on my current head but that just goes to show that flow is not all about size but shape is important too...

I've had to move brake pots and throttle cables to suit the new pedal box


Overall it's looking a lot cleaner now

Pedal box is now plumbed up - I'll sort/align the lines out over the weekend before I bleed them up:


So jobs left are:
1) Bleed brakes;
2) Seal up rear fire wall edges (first comment in my log book);
3) Fit washer bottle & new lines;
and of course
4) Assemble and refit current engine.

The engine block is back and has been scrubbed, degreased and painted. Last night I assembled the bottom end:


I can't find the oil pump drive - can somebody confirm this should be a 6mm allen hex drive - and let me know the length?

Could I ask where you sourced the Strut Brace?

I'm chasing one that only mounts to the Strut Top bolts and doesn't need holes drilled in the inner guard for the 3rd hole. The strut brace is only on my car for looks given the amount of track time it will see.

New clutch, rear seal, and head gasket have now been obtained so very little stands between me and getting the engine finished

Oh except for the leaking pool and the poured limestone surround that I need to sort tomorrow in 41 degree Perth heat.....

I got the rear seal from Roley at racetune - it's the YB version YB1394 (with a nice ford logo).

and yes that is the old paint covered oil filter which weill be swapped out before start-up.





This is the old engine, honed, new rings, bearings, thicker HG and HP oil pump - this will do for the next three months or so. I'm now collecting the bits for the "new" engine.

After a wirlwind trip of Asia I have had the day off work today so finally found time to get stuck into the escort again and as of about 5 minutes ago it runs again!


I have fitted the burtons HP/HF oil pump which is giving excellent oil pressure even at idle. I have also fitted their 1035cm clutch cable which seems to have a longer than standard draw and I have run out of adjustment so need to fabricate a spacer prior to being able to drive the car.

Lots of progress but no picture yet i'm afraid.

First event for 2012 is this weekend: http://www.classicrally.com.au/Speed%20Dome%20Day.htm The new old engine now has 67Km on the clock so I reckon is ready for a good trashing on Sunday.

This morning I took the car over the pits to get it registered as a class B rego dedicated rally car. This way I should avoid a defect notice if pulled now I have a full roll cage etc. On the first attempted they failed the car due to the indicators flashing too fast, a grommet missing out of the floor pan and they wanted padding on the rollcage upper windscreen bar. 2 hours later, a new flasher unit, new grommet, some pipe insulation and another $59 they passed it

The rego papers list blue as a secondary colour...

It appears the Hilux end bearing carrier came loose:

I need to screw it back in prior to being able to get the center clear of the housing.


Hopefully the Kaaz center survived the carnage!

paul , yu are right its a very nice colour "war paint" , a couple of FORD RS stickers
to finish it off nicely, it looks great very individual & not too over the top
as far as the broken diff goes , that just goes to show cheap jap crap bits
