possible distributor failure

car has been sitting for around 6 months with the engine out etc. but when it was running had brand new bosch electronic distributor (from the uk not a kitted one) new module and coil , put the motor back in last wk end and got it started straight away , turned it off and could not get it started again , although next morning same thing.. now it won't start at all , did a resistance test on the coil which seemed alright and bought a new module today still the same so i probed around in the dissy and found a strange black mark.. anyone out there know anything about these dissys can you buy the little winding seperatley or do i go for a new one... having not lasted long i'm not keen on a new one , is it common ?? cheers

yes you can buy the pick-up assembly seperately. any decent auto-elec should be able to supply one. take in you dizzy too, they may need some numbers.
not sure bout the mark though. looks like where the coil shorted. measure the resistance of the coil-see if its open circuit.

measured and got 1105 ohms if that's right ?, i'm starting to think that black mark is a marker pen ? although the cross that rotates and lines up with the pickup is the same width as the blackmark the part that pasts it ...anyhow looks like it's a job for the pro's any way of testing the distributor to see if it's at fault ??

i think thats about right off the top of my head.
you can test the dizzy and associated components if you have the right gear and know what you are doing. if not, like you said-off to the pros.

how many ohms would you expect to see on the coil primary and secondary. it's out in the shed now but it was like .7 ohms + to - , and 7.xx from HT to outer poles it's a bosch HEC 716 similar to the falcon coils.. thinking about this car makes me want to shut the shed for another 6 months

was the secondary 7.xx, ohms or megaohms or kilo-ohms? the primary is right. if it is 7k on the secondary, then thats right too.

yea my multi meter just has an "auto range" on it but i couldn't tell what range it was in .. anyways brought her to life today put the dissy back together just thinking that it really is a marker pen probably used to line it up at the factory or something... turns out to corroded connector going from the dissy to the module but it was corroded inside the plug so it wasn't visible, cut it out all together soldered it up and fired straight away.. took it for a quick blat.. now just waiting till next march to get my liciense back :( time to fix some of the other small stuff
