2008 Silver Fern Rally

Met Wayne at the official start today, and had a look at some very cool cars... looks like almost half of the entries are mk1 and mk2 escorts!! ranging from original racers through to brand spanking new built cars for the event including a $350 000 MK2 running proflex, alloy n/a cossie (built under license by smith & jones in chch nz), dry sumped & throttle bodies that Brian Stokes is competing, car #1.

The car that Wayne is running in is # 32.

Stephen French and Colin Booth, went off in stage 20 (day 4) I believe they might still be in Hospital! :shock:

Probably needs a reshell!! :wink:

Rally Leader Grundy's Mazda in trouble (Day 7)

Back in Brisbane,.Not the best of results we should have had a class win but broke a gearbox (Ford Rocket box), we were lucky with that as the crew changed it in about 20 min, ended up costing us about 10min overall.

The the BDA dropped a cam bucket, lucky my mate had a spare engine in the van, albeit a 1600 xflow, the boys dropped that in so we could continue, was more drivable than the BDA, not as much grunt but what it did have was spread over a wider power band.

Only dents in the car came from a camper van backing into us.

Anyone thinking about navigating in a rally ?.....Dont !!!!!!, too much like hard work, Oh and dont were a full face helmet ..but messy
