Hi everyone, I have for sale a 1980 matching numbers two door RS2000. I rescued this car from Tasmania. It is complete but in need of a full restoration to restore it to a very valuable car.
Exterior:
The car appears to have been rust proofed from new. Having been involved in the automotive industry in Tassie since the late '70's I know that a lot of cars down there were rust proofed new, in fact I used to do this for Tilford motors in the day. There has been a poor repair to the left front. The guard will need removing, the inner guard repaired and the guard replaced. It doesn't have the original nose cone but has a genuine one fitted. I have removed the sound cover and there is no rust in the heater plenum and firewall. The left door needs to be replaced as it has rusted at the window frame! Have never seen this before. A replacement door comes with the car. The rear panel has been hit by a motorcycle and needs repairing or replacing. In my opinion this could be repaired. A replacement rear RS2000 bumper, complete, comes with the car. The boot was not damaged in this incident but the fuel tank has a small dent in it. The car has a period sunroof fitted. Some may be happy with this, if not a new roof skin is not a big problem. It still has the original (5) Volante factory alloys and good tyres. Has some paint cracking and subsequent rust staining in a couple of spots, particularly at the top corners of the boot opening. The paint is very poor and will need a repaint. There are also the odd little dent etc as you would expect for a car of this age.
Interior:
It is all there. The front seats, which have the late lower tilt arms, have been re-trimmed with a cheap material which has faded. The rear seats still have Beta cloth but have the normal holes and will need a re-trim. The door trims have speakers in the normal front lower position. The roof trim and other areas are all OK.
Driveline:
The original engine runs and appears to be OK, although a little rattly in the top end. It requires the normal maintenance however I would suggest a freshen. Has the standard 32/36 Weber but is without the standard air cleaner. Has a set of extractors fitted but comes with the standard exhaust manifold. Gearbox and diff seem ok although I've only driven the car onto and off a trailer. The car also drove on and off the ship across Bass Straight. Brakes work, but I would service them accordingly.
Rare matching numbers cars like this don't pop up every day. It is genuine and (almost) complete and hasn't been highly modified or screwed with over the years. Because it appears to have been rust proofed from new it is in generally great condition however we are not selling a concourse car here. But to the right buyer to invest in this car it could become a concourse winner and as these have, rightly, grown immensely in value in recent times represents a wise automotive investment. Obviously this car is not registered nor would it pass a roadworthy without some repairs.
I am asking $15,000.00 for this car which can be viewed at my factory in Heidelberg Heights, Victoria. Feel free to P.M. me or call on 0438 120 921.
Thank for looking at this offer. Cheers, David Vervaart.
