Pretty sure you'll need to remove back seat to make this legal. Also make sure seat you get are ADR approved and have the tag on them to prove it.

Not sure what the rules are like in SA, but to at least give yourself a fighting chance of getting them passed, make sure they are bolt in harnesses, not clip in.

Removing your back seat as Rhys suggested will also help. Bolt the lap belt into the factory mounting points, and make sure the shoulder straps are bolted to a point such that they are angled between horizontal and 45degrees when viewed from side on. Bolting them to the parcel shelf with some decent backing plates is usually a safe bet.

I know a guy who has been associated with rallying Escorts for years and not once has he ever had a harness bolt pull out from the parcel shelf. Mind you, the authorities may have an issue with you not using standard seat belt mounting points.

Good luck.

Make sure the harnesses have an Australian Standards label on them too.

My question is why would you want to for a street car? They are a pain in the arse if you want to hop in the car to drive down the street to pick up a carton of milk or something.

I had some Sparco ones in my rally car, they were ADR approved so legal for use in Australia. What your state rules are like is another thing.

Why not spend the time and money on making it more racey instead of just looking like it......?

wishihadars1800,
i have 3 points that affix to the rear parcel shelf in my mk2 with fixed back bucket seats. here in SA i contacted the authorities and they said its ok to have the harness's as long as you retain the original seatbelts and you wear these for street use and the anchoring points have not been tampered. as for the seats, they dont like you modifying the original mounts, any changes will require an engineers certificate. you will probably find that mounting "race" styled seats to the original mounts will be too high and feel stupid. i cut the original mounts off and am in the process of bolting the seats directly to the floor. not legal but nice and low centre of gravity. hope i can see over the dash lol
