They were fitted, and available as parts, through the dealers in Europe
and they were made (under license) by Fibresports in Basildon Essex.
I am fairly sure some cars were built by Fomoco and not dealers, as press cars etc

"There seems to be some confusion about the different Mk2 Escort body kits, so I thought I would join in with what I think is right.

People (me included) usually call all the boxy kits x-packs; this was because Ford offered them as an option under their "Series-X" list of performance accessories.
They also offered polyurethane forest type arches as a Series-X fitment for Escorts as well, but nobody refers to that kit as an X-Pack
The box style arches as far as I am aware were developed for the Zakspeed cars first, Ford then used this style as one of the options for Series-X cars, and altered it to suit the RS2000 Nosecone. Ford did refer to this kit as being styled like the Zakspeed cars.

The original Ford kits (with the logo embossed in) were actually made by Fibresports in Basildon Essex, so if you want one exactly like Ford made it that is where to go, although they are reluctant to put the logo on now, I do know some people that have got them to do this though.

Series-X was a huge list of performance options for all current Ford cars, not just body kits, and it was most popular with the Escort MK2, when these parts were fitted by Ford the cars would come out with a Series-X decal attached, but they may not have had a body kit at all, many cars had suspension, GP1 motors and carbies, GP1 fuel tanks, vented disks etc etc. all fitted under the Series-X program, but never had the body mods.

The term X-Pack seemed to start with the way the public described the cars, as far as I am aware Ford didn't describe the cars as "X-Packs" so it was usually used to describe the box arched RS2000's as these were the most common and obviously modded Series-X cars.

There are a few different fibreglass companies in the UK offering both X-Pack kits and the rounded Zakspeed arches, there are also variations on these such as the doubleXX kit which is wider and was seen on Thunder Saloon race cars in the UK.
None of these are genuine except the Fibresports one as they made the originals.

BTW - any kit made the same way as the original is a pain in the arse to fit, there is a huge amount of bogging needed to blend them in, some kits are available with a reverse flange and these are much easier (especially good for race cars)."

I have an X-Pack body kit; it has embossed Ford logos on each of the arch pieces.

A couple of pics here of my car as I was fitting the reverse flange arches.

they are not great to describe what I mean, but if you look carefully at the rear arches you will se they do not have any fibreglass above the swage

in the first pic you can also just about see the screws that are going through from inside the boot below the swage line to hold the arch on

Ford my car it was always going to get a very hard life so cosmetics took second place behind the need to be able to quickly change an arch if I prang it, so they are simply screwed from inside and bonded with some Sikaflex

The front end is all fibreglass

Thanks for the feedback, my kit appears to join up above the swage line as I tried to hold it against the car. I will get someone to hold it for me, take a pic and post it here. What did worry me a little was the top lines of the kit were not 100% level so I gather the kit may need some trimming while being fitted.

I have just acquired, through the diligent efforts of a very good friend, a set of the original Ford fitting instructions. They are in German and are being translated at the moment.

The photo of the kit from SA is dead ringer for my kit. The kit will be fitted to my car later this year. Can we contact you if help / advice is needed?
