how many of you guys are making your own lines at home,
interested to know which is the easiest, best quality, best priced etc ?
what tools do you need to do it ie. do you really need there vice specially made for it etc

Joe I make them up all the time for guys and there really aren't any special tools required except for a set of alloy spanners as you can get by on a grinder with a 1mm blade and a set of soft jaws for your vice
From there it's all down to practice and how much you want to do
Bang fo rthe buck is Speedflow but I've started getting into Icore as they are a thinner hose with a threaded outer and uses an olive for poistive sealing right up to -20AN but be warned you pay for it and if you don't get the right fitting there isn't any return policy and it's always handy to have a range of fittings at your disposal to do a tidy job of it

I've got a heap of bending and flaring tools for brake line up to 3/8" both in normal and AN flare angles. Putting on braided hose ends can be a bit tricky until you work out the best way to do it. Danny's suggestion with the angle grinder seems to work pretty well, just tape up the end to stop it flaring out.

I posted this a while ago: . I generally use Aeroqiup fittings and haven't had any problems with them. Summit Racing has a very good website with a zillion hose fittings. Delivery is usually within a week if everything you order is in stock.

$84 for 20ft -8 hose which is around 7metres is this what you use ?
can you use any brand of fittings with any brand of hose ??

I'd have to go back through some invoices to see what hose I bought, but as long as the fitting size matches the hose then it should be good to go. The only braided stuff I have made is 3/8 (-06 AN). I've also made -06 power steering hose, but you have to use steel fittings for the high pressure. Surprisingly enough the power steering hose was much easier to make as the hose end doesn't flare out as much as the braided hose when you cut it.

I'd also advise on getting the aluminium clamps for the vice, they come in very handy and aren't too expensive.
