Lucas Slide fuel injection (the prince of darkness )

Starting to fit the Lucas to the tarmac car $hit what a muck around hope it will be worth it!

Lots of expensive pipes and ends there!

I'm trying to tidy mine up so I'm waiting on a shaped tank with integral swirl pot from Ireland. I can get rid of all the extra pumps and external Swirl then. I'll have room for two spare wheels as well!

Here we go First thing is that the system needs 120psi so that in its self is more problematic. Next is that I will not run a tarmac car with out a second set of fuel pumps so there are2 lift pumps 2 120 psi main pumps 3 filters and one swirl pot that all must work when called upon ! so it is not the easiest thing to make it look like a show car and also get good weight distribution so this is the best combo of all those factors to date however it has been made a bit tidier since the first pic

Not using the original (unreliable) Lucas pump and CAV filter then? I take it you are also not running a mechanical pump up front. Is it a 6 or 8mm metering unit you are running? (Also is it an original Lucas metering unit?)

You are spot on no mechanical pumps be it electric over or direct drive the unit is a 8mm and just been completely refurbished and was in very good condition to start with so very lucky there. I also have 2x 6mm sets that are being repaired as well which I am using on other cars I am restoring

So here is hoping that they give me what I am looking for performance wise
and yes all 3 units are original

I cannot see any check values after to the high pressure pumps. Do they not need them to stop pressurised fuel returning to the swirl pot via the unused pump?

I use twin pumps (one as a spare) in my tarmac car and yes it can be a pig making it look pretty and thats with just 2 pumps and 2 filters!

These Bosch pumps have there own built in thank goodness 2 less things to ad to an already busy system

Her is the slide unit prior to assembly Cosworth do some strange stuff but it works a very smooth action and instant air flow at a very controlled rate and the car stays historic win win

All looks nice John, but I never understand why people who have the nice shaped alloy tanks sitting high up behind the rear passenger seat bulkhead don't just have a decent sized and designed fuel well welded under the tank, rather than plumbing in a surge tank with additional pipes, pumps, filters and return lines. Gravity is free and reliable. I understand if the tank is on the boot floor or hanging underneath. Can someone enlighten me please.

That sort of design is very good however with my current layout there is not enough room using the tank that i have in the future I may look at making a new tank that has the over hang into the boot
