I dropped the cage down to weld out the tops of the joints. Seemed to work quite well

Lifted it back up into place and welded in the rear section. The crossbar is sitting there now ready to be welded in.

I've already made the driver's side intrusion bars, just need to make the passenger side and the dash bar. Hope to have it finished this weekend and then start tidying it all up.
Scott, are you putting in the 'windscreen' pillar support bar? this bar is required as per the cams manual and I believe would be necessary in yours...? I found that with it installed as per CAMS manual it greatly reduced the access and egress from the cabin. I also found I only had about 35-50mm clearance between it and the steering wheel. I have spoken to CAMS and I can negotiate my way out of installing it to have a compliant cage. Looking good though, getting there.
Fair enough, I forgot the national level requirement. Will you ever compete in IPRA nationals, I believe that's regarded as a national event? But fear not speaking with the 'rules' people exemption can be granted if the case is put forward
Cage is looking good though, was it worth all the effort and expensive tools?
I doubt if I'll ever race this car in IP, don't have the $$ to play like that. Sprints, hillclimbs and regularities will be its most likely events.
Yes, tools are always worth the money . Raw materials for this cage were less than $500. Not sure how much it would cost to get one built, but I cant imagine it being cheap.
They're actually angled out a bit when you look at them from above and are joined in the middle. Not ideal I know, but all that the seat would allow and they're more than what I had before.
Sorry I can't help myself here. Why no diagonal in the main hoop? That would be one of the most important things you could do. And it's only worth a couple of kg's.
Not needed as much when there's a straight support coming up from each rear arch to the middle. Previous cage didn't have one either, just a single diagonal from one wheel arch up to the driver's side. No doubting it would be stronger with it, but it would be stronger with a lot of other members added too and the line had to be drawn somewhere.
Made it out to the All Ford day at Willowbank Raceway today, just! The cage is all done and the rest of the car is back together, no problems there really. Biggest issue was replacing the water pump.
Just before the last run at Morgan Park I noticed that the alternator bolts had worked loose (should have checked sooner ) and had broken the lug off the water pump. I tightened it all up and ran the last event no problems. I had a new water pump that I got from Burton's the last time I put in a big order a couple of years ago so I didn't think there would be too many problems replacing it. So I removed the old water pump, luckily keeping the existing gasket in one piece. Fitted up the new pump, refitting the 2 small bolts, then the alternator adjuster bracket bolt, which then proceeded to snap as I was putting it back in. Bugger

Not a huge issue, just a time-sink as I had to remove the radiator. drill a small hole in the bolt and tap it out with a punch. Fitted the new pump and the next stumbling block was encountered. Went to fit the pulley and it wouldn't go over the spigot on the front of the pump Considered trying to make the hole in the pulley bigger, but luckily investigated a 2.0 water pump pulley that I had in the parts compactor. bingo, it fitted but was in need of a tidy up (blast and paint) which added some more time to the job.
2.0 water pump pulley on the left and the one that came off the car on the right. As you can see they are different heights, but that's OK, as the new water pump was longer to suit! Had to dig around and find 4x M8 bolts to fill the holes and all was good. Luckily I didn't enlarge the hole in the original pulley as the offset wouldn't have worked.
