Repo 6 dash face??
Hey folks, If I want to consolidate all my gauges into a custom dash face. I.e effectively cut out the dash face and put in a blank panel with new holes cut to suit my desired layout. What do people do here, I have seen it done plenty in the mags/interweb by but would rather not cut up a perfectly good six dial dash. Are there reproduction faces/frames available or is a sacrifice the order of the day? Cheers
I hear what your saying Scott which was kind of the intention but to create a neat result with a six dial dash you have to actually cut the face out of the moulded cluster surround so as to fit a blank panel. This effectively ruins a good 6 dial dash (from an originality perspective) which I had gained the impression were worth a few hundred. Woudldn't hesitate with the normal 2 dial dash but would rather not ruin irreplacable parts if I don't have to. Having said that, if I have to, I won't hesitate.
Danny, I read the IP rules and and it seemed to me that as long as you kept the original dash face/mould you could probably fairly get away with just putting in a blank panel with new instruments in roughly the same layout as original. It seems you have done something similar behind your motec dash, I know adding the motec is legit but what goes on behind it surely must still comply??
Re the ones that Geoff Wade does, are you sure it's the actual dash faces not the dash pads? If so do you have any contact details for Geoff Wade you could PM me, assuming im on the right track with legality a fibreglass repo that I could modify would be perfect?
Scott you have to use the instrument panel and you can change the gauges but you need to use all of the panel where looking at your's you're not using the bottom section This one is more like it

Scott you make some good points, I guess it comes down to what ones interpretation is of the difference between the dash and the instrument panel. I would suspect (although I have no first hand experience to back it up) that given the nature of the IP rules regarding trim and what you can and can't remove in general the intended nature of the rule may be likely to suggest a scrutineer would want to see the original style panel in place too, as Danny suggests. Which also raises the question as to weather the repo fibreglass one would be acceptable also as it appears to not be a true copy to my eye. Anyway, it's one of those theoretical arguments that goes round in circles, probably will have no real world implications (in my case anyway) and can only be tested to know for sure.
I'll try and get my hands on one from Geoff Wade and see what happens in the future, worse case a scrutineer will tell you to come back next race with the original dash instead.
Like I said, i've still got the original instrument cluster and i will cut it up if i have to, but until the day i get hassled about it it'll stay as is. Like the majority of CAMS rules, better wording would is needed to minimise misinterpretations.
