Type 9 ball bearing query

Postby Noono » Fri Jul 19, 2013 10:33 am

I bought new bearings for a type 9 g/box.
The input shaft (or front) bearing came with a shield on the inside ie. the oil side !
It is a Fag bearing & the packet was marked genuine Ford part.
The old & worn out bearing is exactly the same, but has had the shield removed before installation.

It is a metal shield, not a seal, so some oil will get thru' to the balls & races, but at a greatly reduced rate. Anyone else come across this, & did you remove the shield ?

Cheers, Gregg

Dig the seals out with a pick and it'll be fine
