Possible Move for Work - Northside of Brisbane-Advice Please

Hi Guys,

With a strong presence here of forum members from Brisbane, Im hoping to get an idea on suburbs/area's etc for a possible move for work. If this move happens, work will be in Rothwell.

Preferences are....
Newish area/suburb, not snooty but safe and not loaded with troublesome characters.
4 bed double garage style home/rental...new would be good.
Good primary school.
Good shops/amenities.

Also would be good to be within riding distance(20km-30km) of mountain roads to train on(road cycling)

The other thing I need to consider is how hard is it to register a modified car in QLD? Would almost certainly be bringing the Corty if we move. Who is the best person to speak to? Is it a case of being easier if you know the right people?

all the good mountain roads here are far better suited to rallying
rather than cycling
there is designated cyclepaths for the phsycopaths !!

I have never heard a bad word about that area of Rothwell. North Lakes is a growing area for families. My brother used to live at Narangba. Now is at Burpengary ( bigger properties).

Anyone else??

Lakeside will never be the same! Very good.
I am at North lakes, 'little britain' shoe box sized lots, only 5 min to Lakeside.
You can buy a 440sq block with three bedrooms for under 300k. Rent for a double gargage home starts at $450/week.

Phil I think you'll find Brisbane alot easier on a lot of fronts as that area is moving ahead more than any other at the moment and as far as getting your car registered it will be no problem at all!!!!!

Sounds good guys, I will probably hear a bit more early in the new year. Im currently 20k from work so driving those sort of kms doesnt worry me. North Lakes looks good. The wife likes the idea of renting a new place so moving into a new area would be ideal. Any other new estates within 20-30k of North Lakes? Being close to Lakeside also sounds great!! Although pretty keen on being close enough to continue my new mid life crisis of road racing pushbikes. Are there any mountains near North Lakes?

G'day Phil,

As Mark has said, North Lakes is good if you wan't a modern area to live, however lots of young families and kids, if you find them annoying (kids that is) then plenty of nice houses on bigger blocks around Rothwell and Scarborough for rent until you get your bearings..
As for bike rides, got a nice 30-60-80km road loop you can join me on (i'm at Deception Bay) or if you wan't to hit the trails then the closest with some action would be the Jinker Tracks at Albany Creek, about a 15-20min drive away so pretty handy..

If you like mountains, then a ride out to Dayboro would be your thing... driving the Cortie would be more fun though :-)

Hi Phil,

It might be worth also looking at Mango Hill (other side of anzac ave to North Lakes) and Warner Lakes. Furthermore, I think you'll find that anywhere between Rothwell and the City you will be pretty good traffic wise as you will be travelling in the opposite direction to the traffic. Not a lot of new areas within 20kms of the city though.

Dayboro through to D'aguilar is a nice hilly drive / ride. Also Mt Glorious/ Mt Nebo is quite good as well, I often see cyclists through the hills.

Thanks for the feedback guys...looks like talks are moving to the finer details stage so its looking a little more serious.

Can I throw a few suburbs out there for comment/opinions/experiences?

Basically they are where searches for rental properties are listed at the moment. Some I think are near to suburbs already suggested.

And Im even more stoked after a search on Strava to find there are some mental rides/climbs through the mountains, some 500+m climbs to ride!!! Looks like some 10%+ grades!!

I lived in butterfly Ridge Kallangur for a for a few years it was walking distant to the Coles and the train station even to Lakeside raceway like most suburbs there are the dodgy parts but there it was nice. And a bit closer to the city, the larger North Lakes shopping center
