Mk 1 Escort rear sway bar drop links

Postby Panko » Fri Jun 29, 2012 5:46 pm

Hey guys,

I am looking at purchasing and fitting a rear sway bar to my Mk1 escort 1300. The guy I'm buying it off has the D brackets to go over the diff, and they also have the D bushes mount in them. He said he did not have the sway bar link brackets, that bolt to the chassis. Can someone please post a pic of what they look like, and also tell me where i can get some.

Im also looking at a twin cam sway bar from him, for $50 and its powder coated. I'm assuming thats pretty reasonable?

Cheers

Aaron,

If that is a genuine Twin Cam sway bar it is very cheap and well worth having. Check carefully that it isn't bent.

As for a rear sway bar, do not do it! It will actually be to the detriment of your handling. Long ago i took the rear bar off my road car and it transformed the handling. The rear bar feels nice driving around at a normal pace as it reduces rear roll but once you start to push, particularly out of tight corners, all it does is lift the inside wheel off the ground causing lots of wasteful wheelspin. You do not need it, save your money.

ok thanks Gary. very interesting point then.

the twin cam front sway bars, are 22mm diameter? correct? I need to measure the one thats in my car already, because i just rebuilt the front end, and I'm sure it was a 20 or 22mm bar. its all Mk2 front end, i know that much.
Cheers
