Pistons to sitting proud of the block deck ?

Postby Damion Parkin » Mon Aug 17, 2009 5:43 pm

Hi all,

My machine shop has started dummy assembling my new bottom end for me and it has been discovered that the pistons are sitting around 55thou proud of the block deck!

The pistons are 1.0mm over Mahle's.

I recall that my last engine had the pistons sitting slightly proud, but it was nothing compared to how far the new ones are poking out.

Does anyone know what the standard deck height is ? and what it is acceptable to deck them to ?

Thanks,

Damion

Hi Damion,

You want around .030" - .035" piston crown to head clearance.

Hi Phil,

So that means that I want my headgasket .030" - .035" + the amount the pistons sit proud of the deck ? Does the headgasket crush when you torque down on it ?

Thanks.
