Engine Mount woes

Hi guys, first post but have been snooping around here for a while.
I bought a pinto powered MK2 recently with a type9 box, never owned an escort before but im worried about how much the engine moves around in the bay especially when cranking. They look to be the standard mounts in there just black rubber and have probably softened up over the years. Does anyone make an upgraded engine mount? or is is just as easy to buy some urethane or something and knock some up myself?
cheers.

Eurothane ones usually break after on dumped clutch...
Its pretty normal for them to do that...
If you can afford it go the world cup x member and mounts :finga:

Depends if you want to replace the crossmember and also how much vibration you are willing to put up with.

I made these many years ago and never had any more engine mount problems. I used some EB Falcon diff lower control arms, cut off the ends and welded them to the plates that bolted to the engine. The outer brackets were angles welded to a flat plate. Vibration transmitted was very noticible, but on a motorsport car you appreciate the engine staying where intended.

Breaking the standard ones is very common, well, it was for me anyway.

I'm currently running two 30yo engine mounts that have sagged and move around like yours do when at start up but otherwise work fine. I'm about to swap over to these ones that are from a 6cyl e30 BMW engine (heavier engine and bilstein brand).

hi mate, cheers that looks like just what im after, was thinking there would have to be something very similar to the original ones out there, was going to hit the wreckers tommorow to try scope something out but looks like you've saved me the hassle!
let us know how they go.

That type of mount will be fine in a road car but won't last if used in lots of competative events with lots of "launching" the car off the line.

ive had a look at that set up and if your using those lower control arms bushes their too small in size i would have thought that the swivill point in the diff center would have been better but thats just my idea or may be a better photo of your set up would be an advantage
