Rory, the trick with the Pinto valve train is to make sure you have it set up correctly so that the cam wipes the rocker pad in the middle and the tip of the rocker doesn't run off the top of the valve stem.
Usually aftermarket larger valves will be slightly longer (a couple of millimeters) in length to cater for different cam base circles. This helps restore the rocker geometry to factory.
Also make sure there is no binding of the valve springs at full lift and that there is sufficent clearance between the valve heads at the point of overlap.
If your engine biulder wants to fit lash caps to the valves or long pad rockers then thank him for the advice and find another one who knows what he is doing.

Thanks Nev...Hows the baby?..I was at mt Cotton..won my class in the HDT Torana..your baby looked a bit worse for wear on the day?

The baby is all good these days. Had it fixed for over a year now and been out in it a few times.
