pinto spark plugs

what plugs are the go these days ??
i used to run MOTORCRAFT - BF 32-CU plugs
i know we can get into discussions about heat range etc
but it would be interesting to hear what sorts of plugs
you guys run & any feedback would be welcome :)

I use adaptors to take a conventional 14x1.25 threaded spark plug in my race/rally pinto engines ( and windsor V8 engines). Years ago I got annoyed at the lack of available spark plugs and I punched the guts out of a stock spark plug. With a little bit of tinkering on the lathe, and a 14x1.25 tap... I now have an adaptor that takes a wide range of easily available and cheap race NGK ( primarily) spark plugs. I'm obviously not the first to think of it, as 10 years later, I saw similar items in the burtons catalogue !! I guess if you use even smaller threaded spark plugs, that would be an easy way of chasing another cc to raise the compression ratio ??

Yeah... looks like the ones I spin up, but way more expensive than making them yourself
Besides, for my competition engines, I still dont think you can beat NGK racing spark plug range in 14x1.25 series...

I presume it would be beneficial to ensure the earth of the spark plug is positioned in a particular place within the combustion chamber (I am thinking having it closer to the combustion chamber wall to allow the spark to 'see' more of the mixture.
True/Flase?
How do you achieve this?

Its called Plug Indexing and is fairly common in drag racing.
For Chevs and Ford V8's you can buy washers of different thickness's that dictate which way the plug will face when its screwed in. I think VPW used to sell them.
I imagine you would need to mark the plug and then use trial and error until you found which washer worked for each cylinder.
This is getting a bit technical to chase maybe 1HP?, I find its easier to just press the accelerator a little bit harder (and hold your tongue at the right angle)!
