mk1 axles

after mk1 axles that are supposedly better than the mk2 ones, i'm sure they don't have the hub locater on the axle flange? any help apprec'd somewhere around brisbane i know there's a fair few mk1 owners around

Hi,
I have some which I think are an earlier version, they are thicker on the splined end- ie they do not taper down to the spline which is the weakest point like most of the later model axels.

They don't have the weak neck near the diff spline end. I don't know where they would break if you snapped one.
They do have a hub locator but it protudes less and is slightly wider in diameter. To use on a Mk2 you need to whizz open the central hole in the brake drum otherwise it wont mount flush on the axle flange. I also had to space the brake drum out from the axle flange with some 1.5mm washers otherwise it rubs the brake drum housing plate on hard cornering. Don't really understand why...maybe the MK1 axles are slightly shorter?

finally got around to my mates house , moved a heap of @#$% to drag his mk1 out pulled the axle and looks exactly the same as the ones in my car, it's a 75 model so it might have come with mk2 stuff or has been changed at sometime, does any one have a pic of a mk1 axle ?
