Not much done sofar this week, moved the Soarer chassis back a bit and dropped it to the ground and removed all the remaining suspension bits from the Escort.
Prepped for surgery,
those with a weak stomach should probably look away now.....

Say goodbye..
there's no turning back now!
front will be bolt-on to allow easier access for engine/gearbox removal.
most of the inner wings gone
before the front floorpan came out I welded some rhs in across the a-pillar to keep a bit of strength in she shell when i'm moving it around.
last to come out today was the heater bubble
more tomorrow..

Great work, there is either 10 of you or your a machine.
One of the things I find with these types of projects is the abnormal height the escort tends to sit on the donor chassis. I know that last photo is not representative,
but it got me thinking about similar projects I have seen. I think its the extra wide track trying to be fitted under the narrow escort and standard arch extensions/ flares or wider flares but in the same location (guard height) as a normal escort.
What is your plan?
Cheers, most fun project on RS at the moment I say...quickest too so far.

Given what has happened in this post I thought Nutter was a given.
And I know I can work quickly but in the time Scott cut up 2 cars welded one half back together and had them sitting as one I have removed some floor metal and folded a piece of metal. Im going with machine.

Nah, not all welded back together yet! I left a lot of 'excess' on the Soarer chassis as I realised that I would not know exactly how much to cut off until I got it to this point. I have the Soarer sitting 150mm above the ground (looks lower!) and will get the Escort sills down to just past the Soarer floorpan once all the metal that's in the way is removed.
The wheel that's on it is a 16" with an o/d of about 650mm so it's a bit big. I want to run 15's with an o/d of about 600mm which is about 225/50/15

Yep, 15's were standard issue, 16's an option (so says the tyre placard).

100mm will have to do to keep it in the sports sedan regs, the wheels on it now have a bit more offset than they should do. Was talking to Craig yesterday about tyres and as long as I can get a 15x10 to fit we should be able to get some tyres easily for it (275/35's or thereabouts)
