Escort

Postby stevedesertmartin » Sun Nov 20, 2011 11:35 am

Hey guys, just joined the forum. Have had a little escort 2dr for few yrs. Bought the car and stripped it all out. Unfortunately lost interest after this due to work etc. Thankfully she is in getting a new coat of paint and tidyed up. Just have a few questions if somebody can help me out.. Firstly the car came with a 1.6 in it but i am putting a pinto in. Does anyone know the dimensions of a 2l radiator. Dunno if the radiator is for a 1.6 or 2l. Secondly does anyone know the paint code for signal yellow. Thinking of making it a mexico replica. And also there was new springs in the car when i bought it but they are not 2l springs. Would i need to change these. The car is only going to be used on weekends and that.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try and get some pics up

Cheers Steve

Few pics. Top 1 is lately in the garage. Others were when it was collecting dust.

Hi Steve, welcome aboard. Mk2 2.0's had this cutout for the radiator. If yours hasn't go this cutout then you will need probably need to make it.

Thanks mate. Pretty sure it doesn't. Would I be better putting a 2l Rad in? Or would the 1.6 keep it cool enough?

The 2L radiator only just does the job.
Three core or alloy type 1600 radiator, would handle the heat if you didn't get caught in traffic.

Get a triple core for a 2.0l radiator, use the standard shroud and engine fan and you won't have a problem. A fan on its own won't be enough, you'll need the shroud.

Edit: I'm pretty sure the pinto is longer than the 1600, and the cutout allows the radiator to move forward to fit the engine fan.
