While I wait for my wheel clearance issues to resolve themselves I thought I would put some new horns on. Car had hella air horns on it before, they were dead. By the time I've removed the compressor and two trumpets Its freed up a lot of space in the engine bay which is nice. The wiring job on the air horns was shocking so I'm going to make up a new mini harness this weekend and use a relay.

Going to have these two little yellow numbers poking out from behind the black grill, still need to modify the bracket of the left horn so that it sits a 15mm further to the left to even them up. They are Hella sharp tone horns if anyone is interested, they were about $50 off ebay.

Does anyone know if the Mk1 ignition barrel can be repaired? I only have 1 key for my ignition and its very old and worn and is hit and miss, the key return spring failed long ago. I have a NOS Key barrel with two brand spanker keys. I was only going to go to the effort of replacing it if the return spring can be repaired.

Otherwise I was going to do away with the ignition barrel all together and put a push button and a manual switch.

While I wait for my steel twin cam guards to show up, I managed to sneak some time over the christmas period to do some work on the fiber glass arch extensions.

After a fair bit of fettling, using the bumper mounting hole as a reference for the guards forward position, and the crease in the lower body work to locate it vertically.

Cut lines for the flares.

After trimming the flares and making the cut. I'm not game to show my cut, my grinding skills leave a lot to be desired.

Hanging on with three metal screws

Next step is some panel beating to flare out the original metal to meet the arch, and also flattening out the original arch on the right hand side

You've done a lovely job of that! When you folded your arch metal back to meet the fibreglass flare, did you have to make relief cuts in it, or were you able to panel beat enough of the flare on it?

My fiberglass arch had enough lip to overlap so no metal was folded. Bonded on with a rigid epoxy glue then fiberglass matt over the inside join and filler\paint process. Lasted 3 months before deciding to bubble arch..same process bigger cuts.

Long time and no post but someone may be watching.

How did you end up going with the AP kit? change to a bias box and retain the original drums at the rear?

Im in SA also, be nice to see this car out and about
