The Puzzlescort'

I thought it was bout time I posted a few pics of the Escort so named the 'Puzzlescort' by one of my close friends over 15 years ago

its had a few panels here & there, a total reshell after an incident with a wombat.

The car pretty much has not changed in the past 10-12 years, apart from swapping to a hilux diff around 7 years ago, All the mechanicals have been out every couple of seasons depending on how many events it had done during the season

No, don't go with the herd and arch it Scott!

(I'm just jealous). :D

Nice job on re-doing the dash with new instruments. Which arches are you going to go for?

the puzzles come from when it was originally built. it was assembled from a mulitple of cars I had owned & sold including a few escorts & my much loved Mk1 capri, keeping the 'good' bits to get it going. The original puzzle pieces were the colours of the cars that had gone into it.

now the puzzles have stuck and when it went out all people asked about was when the pieces were going on again

well the postman has been nice to me lately....

after a few changes in life, its time to get back into the car

these turned up from Raceproducts
Image Image

as you would agree a very nice bit of kit from the guys...(Geoff was quick to point out that these didn't have the same adjustemnt as Danny's lol)

purchased some spacers from GP4 for inside of the bearings which needed a couple of thou off to fit but all sorted

the Forest Arches are also now sitting in the garage, just have to work out if there is enough time to get them fitted & painted before The Marysville stage (Spring 200) in September

will hopefully get cracking on a few little other upgrades while I'm fixing the dents in the back from my sister in laws 100 series running into the back of it!!

Its probably about time I intorduced my new service crew, the boys are getting a bit more into my car after being part of the RDA EBC Brakes Motorsport / Morris Rallying Team this year doing the VRC

the boys in their team tops
Image

so the boys decided they woukd work on a side each - most likely the longest strut top change in history, but who cares....
right side

left side

we purchased these as the strut tops needed a spacer, the ones from GP4 were only a 1mm out & for the money I used these as a base
http://www.grp4fabrications.com/popup_image.php?pID=269

we had a bit of a debate on which part was on the top & which was on the bottom & decided the wrong way -50/50 choice

result - Safari Escort!

Image

An easy fix by swapping the spacers around but that will be another day - there just isn't enough movement on the spring platforms lol

the oldest is already counting down the years to when he can do motorkanas & navigate, the youngest already has plans to kick me out of the drivers seat and into the navigators seat.

We all know that drivers DO NOT make the best navigators!

Well....its been a long time between drinks but the Escort had its first Rally in 6 years....

Apart from the driver being a lot older & rusty the event for us went well......the rain had set it and turned most of the roads to slop but they still managed to run the event although shortened

A couple of shots from the weekend

not my favourite part of a rally, trying to map & work out where we are going

the fog set in half way thru the night...luckily we finished as you can see in the morning shots it got pretty thick

Great to see you've been back out in the forests again Scott. Glad your start number wasn't unlucky for you!

What type of event was it?

the number wasnt bad for us at all.....

It was a round of the Victorian Club Rally Series, I had a very young navigator who did really well considering the conditions

Looks like I finished 18th out of 38 starters which I'm rapt with knowing we missed a few turns & had to 'turn around' a few times

Hopefully I will get a few action shots to post

well we went & tried something different the other week

we bolted on some formula ford tyres that I get at the right price (free) and took the car down to the Haunted hills hill climb track.
Never been there or done a tarmac event in the Escort, the day started off well but after the first run it started to develop a miss - still not sure what has gone wrong with it, we suspect a head gasket....time will tell

anyway a quick vid
