A great day at Lakeside today, the best run I've had there as the last 2 times I had oil getting out the rear main seal and onto the clutch. Managed a PB of 65.8 (previous best 66.9). We had 8 runs in total (7 + practice) 5 lap runs. I think most of the paint stayed on . Might do a Hillclimb at Mt Cotton next weekend if they'll accept a late entry, otherwise it's about time I mowed the grass...
The 215/50's are probably the biggest i'll run and there'll be enough room for them on the back, might have to stretch the front a little as the new hubs have added 10mm each side.
Hey Scott, I manage to fit the Hoosier 205 60 13 tyre on a 8 inch rim on the rear just with flaring the body and the Hoosier is a wide 205 but the front I had to put flares as with 5 degrees of caster and 5.5 of camber just had to cut out so much of the guard. Managed to also do a personal best last weekend at the super sprint on Morgan Park track E the 2.1 km track did a 1.07.15 dropped my best by 1.9 seconds won the class and got 3rd outright beaten by a Porsche GT3 cup car and a 7 litre cobra. Was very happy with the result. You should run the Qld Super Sprint state championship a 2 day event weekend after Bathurst. Different track each day. Express of interest are on the Morgan Park Web site home page. Always a great weekend.
Thanks Darrin for the Supersprint info I'll have a look. It's always good to lower your pb's!
TC guards are cut too high and every man and his dog has them.
I can only run 7's maximum, kumho do a 215/50/13 in the same tread and compounds as what I'm currently running so i'll more than likely get a set of them next to try. The front right guard needs repairing where it got dented in the shed a couple of months ago anyway..
the lower you get it to the ground is absolute winner more important than any other suspension mod you will ever do !! (WITHIN REASON) provided you have most other settings reasonably close corner speed will be the most notable difference , along with better turn in , better braking , etc in my experience i go for 5 deg pos castor 3 to 5 neg camb , & low ride height this includes tyre profile !!!!! and dont forget WIDE TRACK & LONG WHEELBASE !! ps an extra 10 to 20 mm or more wheelbase and track can make a big improvement !! just have to be inventive on how to acheive this on an escort all i can say is get yur tape measure out !! and put yur thinking cap on scott
So 2014's done and dusted, time to get ready for the new motorsport year. Apart from a cut and polish and a quick checkover I think the car's pretty much ready to go. First event is the TTT weekend at Morgan Park on the 7th & 8th of Feb, Test and Tune on Saturday and Sprints on Sunday.
So before we get there, I need to do some tyre swapping. Before that, I decided it was time to give the rims a freshen up as they had never had one since i started using them. To make life a bit easier I knocked up a stand to get them to a more acceptable working height, and I must say, it worked a treat.
So, many, many hours later, buffing, masking, painting, I have 8 'new' rims. Hope the paint stays on..
Gee they came up nice. Great idea with the stand, it can be pretty back breaking doing that sort of work on the ground. I'm sure it will come in handy again and again. Did you cover the polished alloy in a clear coat or some product to retain the shine? Test n tune!! What E.T. are you expecting?
I used the Autosol polish as a final step, it supposedly has a protectant built in. Now they're clean I should be able to keep them tidy fairly easily after each event.
Depends what track they use for the sprints, I've only ever driven this car on the long circuit, doing low-mid 1:33s from memory.
Giving it a once-over today. Rear drum shoes have plenty of meat still left on them after 3 years of use so nothing more drastic than a quick de-dusting. Also replaced the mid exhaust hanger bolt that had gone AWOL, nothing else appeared to be wayward under the car.
A couple of fuel line pieces were showing cracking so I replaced those, tightened up the fuel filter which had a minor leak and emptied the oil catch tank. It fired up straight away and ran up to temperature no problems so, apart from a good cut back and polish (not done after I painted it last September) and putting the wheels on its all ready to go for 2015.
