with those gonzo's i remember looking at nevs when his rs was in peices seemed to have a few slip on joins not weled all the way around .. would this play with o2 sensor readings ??

They are a double slip joint which seal very well and don't seem to effect any O2 readings but with the new sets of pipes he's managed to get them together qithout anything lacking

Howdy,

I did this some time ago.

Wanted a better seat. Started getting worried about head/neck/spine etc as I had an issue, prior.

Wanted lateral head restraint, with my 6'3" frame.
Went for fat ass seat in anticipation ?

Also to create more lateral support of seat.

This is only seat that would do me.



Most escort owners will be familiar with the offset/angled steering wheel.
I have always tried to center wheel with seat whilst moving wheel as far left as I could. This was very easy with last seat.....but a real fight with this one and still didn't get it as far as oldun.

In fact it was looking pretty grim at getting this in at all.

I remade the left seat support, bent the other way, so to follow contour of gearbox tunnel, somewhat.



I also wanted more rake, so added to brkts.





I mounted the bars way down, to give more lateral support, via floor.



Ive ended up with a fair few holes, over the years, to plug.













Also this seat is approx twice the weight of the old steel framed one that was in there.

I always was going to write something about removable guards and escorts, but never got around to it.

Here's how I did it.....................

My car came with twincam guards. Only Danny would cut them up and fit bubbles, ..... so I got another set and in true escort owner fashion, they came with another car.

Once removed the edge looked real ordinary.

So I fitted a suitable width 1mm strip over the lot and plug welded from underneath [more weight ]





I used cage nuts as I found they worked well as STD on my Zephyr. These give a little adjustment, necessary to align the panels etc here.

I used the fastener in the back righthand of above. Looking further back u can see I pop riveted these on.

You can use any type.










Along the door edges and the one underneath, I used nutserts.







The front is a little trickier.
There is not much metal there to join panels, so i added some. Then used nutserts again.

sorry but those nutserts are crap , easy to use but they are like pop rivets
no holding power & what happens when the thread jams up ? they just spin &
near impossible to get undone

I used nutserts! But have found a much easier way of removing guards on the weekend!

i used stainless steel rivnuts with a dollop of thread lock gunk (as suggested by some helpful (i hope!!) person in MotorTraders. No sign of spinning yet. I used a steel one or two in the door pillar with a spot of weld as the material is too thick for the rivnut to work. If it spins at some point in the future-----drill it out and put a fresh one in!
