Great site, I've had a chance to read a lot of great info while I've been on nightshift and been waiting for my subscription to be verified. I look forward to contributing.

Ok, I have recently agreed to purchase a Mk1 Escort race car, that I am told has been around the curcuit racing scene for a while. I am due to drive over east (from the west) in a few weeks to finalise the deal and drag my prize home.

The car is CAMS logbooked but under the class 2D, I can not find any mention of this class in any CAMS information. Can somebody please clarify this for me? Is this class obsolete?

I will be running the Escort in curcuit racing events but plan on investigating the option of a high Hp YB Cosworth turbo engine (to replace the 2L pinto), a second seat and comms and road rally/hillclimb it.

2D is the special class for yellow escorts....

Group 2 is sports cars
Group3 is touring cars, sure it's not 3D (Sports sedans)?

Yes it will be coming to Perth, it would have been here weeks ago although I have found it very hard to find someone to ship it as it has such low ground clearance. Also the crazy amount of money people want for car trailers over here (limited market?), sees me doing a road trip next R+R to get it.

Some of you may know the car, it's blue now but think it used to be Blue/red/white? It is currently in ACT where I don't think its seen much action, but the re-issued CAMS logbook (1999) has it from Mount Pleaseant, which I assume is the one in SA . I've been told it has been logbooked for a long time previous to the 99 re-issue. It has been modified with spaceframe engine bay and has fiberglass bonnet, front gaurds and boot and is running simmons 13x10" all round.

I'm not too sure about posting pics of the car just yet, as I have only paid the deposit so far but I will post pics of the CAMS logbook when I get back to my room tonight. However after not finding any mention of a 2D class, and the replies here, I can only surmise that I am reading the terms 'catagory/group' to be the wrong thing and it probably stands for 2 door.

As you can tell I'm a noob to race cars and am using this as an entry level car.

The scarey part seems to be that there is no 2D?! You may need to somehow do a back search and find what the class actually was when 1st log booked.

If you look in your old manuals that 2D was sports sedans and 2E was Club Cars and 2H was HQ's!

My sports sedan was originally log booked as marque sports and was entered and raced for years as a sports sedan before anyone noticed.

You can run in what ever class you like as long as you conform to that class as all the log book is is a record of events and scrutineering

I like where it says " Cage Fitted" under the heading Rollover Protection No.

OK, so... Car is now paid for and sitting in Mildura. Waiting for me to go get it. Turns out driving to go get it is a bitch, so is having a car with 1.5" ground clearance shipped.
