The Stillwell REPLICA RS1600 Escort runs in the Biante Series, which is a completely different category to N(c).
They have far greater freedoms re engines, gearboxes, brakes etc.
In the era, there were 2 Escorts I used to love to watch - the Globe car, and the Stillwell car. They both raced at Adelaide International raceway (a track more suited to V8's) and accounted well for themselves.
Mick Monterosso had the Stillwell car for many years, and from what I remember, they messed up trying to make it a mid-engine style format, and the shell was eventually dumped. The BDG engine finished up in a Toyota Corolla sports sedan.
Peter Nightingale bought the Corolla and an Escort shell and started to recreate the Stillwell car some years ago. Unfortunately Pete suffered MS and the car was sold.
I believe also that Stillwells have the Globe Escort as well. I reckon that Garry Rogers bought that way back then.
Mick Monterosso bought the Phil Ward Escort (if I remember rightly) - but it was a wreck, and he commisioned Develco (Simon Aram and the late Bernie Pfittzner), to build him a new car....which was the little white one he raced so successfully for many years.
And then there was Luigi deLuca's BDG powered Anglia - which would take both these cars on occasionally.
Boy, we were lucky to have such entertainment and variety on the race track in the 70's and 80's.
