Steering Wheel Boss

So I'm considering getting a Sparco steering wheel. I've been looking into it and it would appear that most after-market wheels have the same bolting pattern so all I'll need to get is an Escort Splined boss, Is this correct?

Is there a difference between the MK1 and MK2?

I'm assuming for ADR regs I'd need a collapsible one?

What bosses are some blokes running?

Yes, MK1 & 2 are different. Other answers I do not know...

i am not sure on the ADR or even if the ones i have are collapsible.

just watch as they come in different lengths i have just changed a short one for a longer one as my leg was hitting the steering wheel when i put my foot one the clutch

Danny. I've looked high and low on-the-line and haven't found any momo steering bosses. Plenty of OMP etc.

I rang SAAS today and they said collapsible is not required for ADR regs apparently.

You're best advised to have some sort of collapsibility in the steering. There is a requirement in the ADR's. Our old mk1's & 2's ran collapsible steering wheel bosses (different size hole/splines from mk1 to mk2) whereas modern vehicles moved to telescoping collapsible steering columns. The SAAS guy may not have realised the escort relied on the boss not the column for impact absorption.
You can always 'make one'. Cut the boss off the back of an old wheel, have a new flange plate professional quality welded to it then drill & tap threads to match your steering wheel bolt pattern. You can shorten the length a bit by where you cut , but need to be sensible about it. I did this on an ICV which was subsequently fully engineered for registration here in Victoria.
hope this helps,
SFE

Thanks for the suggestion SFE. thumbup.gif I got my engineer friend to machine a boss end. Cost the same as an after market one and the original shroud still fits. Looks factory which is what I was aiming for. Cheers :D

Painted up.

I highly suggest this route to keep your car as per ADR regs.
