RS Motorsport :: Classic Speed Restored

Hi All. Just a quick post to introduce myself as Matthew, I joined the forum a few months ago when I started looking for a car (Mk1 Escort), and just picked one up. Ive started a thread about the car, not sure where I am going to start with it, but at least having it is a start! Im located in Newcastle, and hopefully I can get my kids keen to help me out with the easy stuff. I don't plan to build it as a race car, just something fun to drive in the tarmac rally style.

Im sure Ill have a lot of questions, Id like to do a lot of upgrades (brakes, steering, suspension etc), and Im not really sure where I am starting, so a lot of reading in front of me!

Ive not long finished my 69 Valiant Regal Safari (below), and wanted another project to work on, so this is it!

That's a very nice old Valiant you have there. Would be interested to know a little more about it.

Saw the thread for the MK1, that also looks like a decent car and a good starting point. There's plenty of free advice on offer here so don't be scared to ask.

As I mentioned, there is a little rust in the car, the bit in the front pillar is the only concern, it might need some temporary attention just to get the car registered so I can drive it a little before I start work on it. But all in all a good starting point I think, Im sure Ill have plenty of questions, mainly about what is a good idea to change etc, but keen to have a go at it. Just after a nice streetable car.

The wagon was purchased Brand new in 1969 by my wifes Aunty, a genuine one little old lady owner! I drove it around for a few years, before restoration. It was completely rust free, so no major dramas. It still has the original slant 6, long runner manifold, 4BBL Holley, pretty decent cam, extractors... still in the final stages of tuning, but almost there.

Fellow New South Welshman here, Central Coast actually.

As you have probably seen already there is a great source of knowledge on this site.
Thankfully, enough to make me think long and hard when I was considering buying a modded Mk1 late last year, and ultimately walk away from potential disaster.
That led me to searching for a Mk2 two door and then stopping the search all together as prices of those things are out of control.
One will pop up one day for me I'm sure.

Hope your Mk1 project goes well, the car looks great to start a resto.
Keep us updated with the progress if you can.
I for one will be keen to see what you do and can get away with regulation wise.
