Prado clutch problem

Hi clutch gurus.

I'm having trouble with the clutch in the Prado.

If the gear change is quick all is good. If I depress the clutch and hold it in for a short while before lifting my foot off the pedal stays on the floor. Then I need to lift the pedal so I can change to the next gear or take it out of gear.

The clutch and pressure plate is less than a year old. The clutch master and slave cylinder are maybe two years old.

Fluid level is good and there are no leaks.

Ideas?

When the pedal stays on the floor can you change gears when the engine is running?

No its in gear, I have to flip it up by foot depress the clutch and change.

Sounds like the fluid is by-passing the cup in the master Cylinder. New M/Cyl.

But wouldn't the spring return the pedal to the normal position?

I had a Prado in just before lunch, didn't think to look at the set-up. :lol: If it's like the Hilux I have here ATM, the spring is way too light to return the pedal. If it's like a vehicle I had in last week (can't recall the model) then the spring was on a pivot and also assisted with the downward pressure when applied past the pivot point and needed to be pulled back from the floor when bleeding the system.

If I understand your description correctly, you should be able to have someone put their foot on the clutch pedal holding it to the floor and lay under the vehicle and watch the slave cylinder pushrod slowly retract back into the cylinder (of course follow all safety proceedures to ensure you don't get run over!). Similarly, if you put the vehicle in 1st gear and hold your foot on the pedal it should start to creep away after a few seconds (or however long it takes for the fault to replicate).

Alternately, the weather up her in CQ is awesome if you're up for a roadtrip and I can look at it in person! :D
