Who would like to see a Group Nd class?

I have been chatting to a few people about Nb, Nc, Biante and Group C/A & it has my mind racing.
Everyone loves watching the older cars run but Biante & Group C/A are very expensive categories. Group C/A are incredibly restrictive with their original cars only policy so there has to be an alternative created.

Who wouldn't love to watch (or compete with) cars from 73-83 all having a go in a similar class structure to Nc?

I reckon that an Nd class covering cars built 1973-1983 would be fantastic and attract a lot of cars. Maybe use a similar set of regs to the Nc cars and create a new class.
It would be great to watch, reasonably priced (compared to Biante or Group C/A) and attract lots of different cars from a fun era.
Who would like it? How do we get something like this going?

Look forward to the thoughts and best wishes for the break ahead.

Hi Blunny

I'm building a car for group Nc at the moment, a 1300 escort. To be honest I think there are almost too many historic categories running. If you go to phillip island they have to get rid of a category and rotate each year because there are too many cars! Last year there were over 550!!

It would be extremely hard to start up another category, you would have to make a submission to CAMS etc.

Just come racing in group N, we need more 1300 escorts out there :)

I'd build a pinto powered car to stir up the BDA's if it came about

Nd.
Good for Escorts and would involve watching a lot of Mazda rotaries relive their heydays.

Well now Im starting to think its a silly idea. Another class for Muzdas to dominate. I was hoping for Commonwhores, Falcans, Ranas etc not bloody Mazdas.

Im too fat for a 1300...

That's why they need to keep to say end of 77 like the biante guys and maybe put a rider in there that you can only use a 4 stroke engine

NO Group Nd!

There are enough categories for Historic cars of this era. Group N & Biante have bastardised the thought of historics with the modifications and updates that they have allowed.

You think any racing is cheap? Your kidding yourself. At least with Group C once you have the car it is somewhat controlled by the rules being static.
No matter what the class, there is always someone with a fatter wallet that wants to be at the front. If you are happy to complete and do/be your best, as I am, you can control your costs and plan yor spend. I've seen to many people shoot for the front and spend up on the Visa card, they don't enjoy themselves and in the end often leave the sport upset.

With Group A/C the car is often worth the same or more than what you paid for it unlike the other categories. And the majority of the drivers aren't interested in touching one another...we know who to stay away from.

I had as much fun in my Escort as i have had in my Mustang and Falcon, but sooo much cheaper! E.g. I've gone from using 120-140 litres of Avgas in the V8's to 40-50 in the Escort at a race meeting with leftovers.

Take the time, find a Group A/C car and come racing...

My only query is where/when could you run this category.

From an outsiders perspective (ie: I don't race cars - but like to spectate) it seems the Group N style car is catered for by the Histroric Race Car Clubs and to a lesser extent the Touring Car Masters (albiet the one car won't appear in both categories). The former cater for local level meets and the later tag on the back of the V8 circus ($$$$$$$$$$). HRCC run a calendar - but where else do you see these cars ? (sprint events or hill climbs?).

If you look at SE Qld - Lakeside, QR and Morgan Park are full nearly every weekend with some sort of motor racing activity, whether it be sprints, drifting (AAARRGGHH!), Hyundai Excel (OK - its cheap) or State Championships in everything from road cars to open wheelers. Many fledgling categories are looking to have their own calendar to build up numbers - take the Trans Am series as an example -they might be on the calendar 2-3 times a year, but see little other track time

Yes I like to see particular cars on the track (preferably a Ford), but I'd rather see close racing and people dicing for position rather.
