Roger has been working on moving into his new house and sorting it out. As a result his internet is limited and at dial up speed so he's not on here much (or anywhere else).
But as soon as he's got it all worked out he'll be back!

TPG keep stuffing around with the local exchange. ADSL2 has been promised here for a very long time with no result. I'm moving to ADSL2 at the end of the month with another provider in the same exchange. I'll post a comparison then.
Should be interesting. I'm about 600 metres from the exchange so the speed should be significantly faster.

I used to live 200m from my exchange. I was disappointed in the speeds still. Although good, I thought I might get better....

Steve,
This is the issue I was having.
The provider is at the mercy of the exchange, to provide a port for you.
The exchange is run by telstra.
it is up to them, when they get enough grief/inquiries to put in additional ports [hardware] for you.
I am told the NBN is like 2 years away from completion...some areas will be faster than others.
Telstar will sell you their mother at the moment so they can lock you into something that you will need to change, down the track.
If they promise you something........beware.

woohoo, I win
It is the lowest number that wins, right??
And this is on the ADSL2+ plan, much worse on anything less. About 8k from the exchange. Mind you, i'd rather they spent the money on the roads around here than a fkn NBN

I've got a fair bit of stuff with Telstra (mobiles, landline, TV) so I qualify for their deal bundling. Speed is not the only reason i'm leaving TPG. It's not even the main reason. It is cheaper for me to stay there but i've had enough.
I was thinking about getting cable but that means getting a new modem. I wonder if everyone realises that they'll be needing to buy new housephones, modems, faxes, answering machines, 4 in 1 printers etc when the copper network is switched off.
... and i'd rather have 43 billion worth of new roads too.

You'll have to remind me every now and again to not believe everything I hear on the radio in the morning.
My internet switches on Nov 4. I'll post the new speed then.
