Motor sport volunteers

Hi guys - there are plenty of motor sport competitors on this forum - my query relates to what opportunities there are for me to participate in the sport, without competing (blasphemy).
I've looked at stepping up to be a flaggie (after doing the training etc) & checked out the QMROA web site. My biggest dilema is I don't want to have to drive 3 hours to Morgan Park (which is used nearly every weekend) or 2 hours to Qld raceway everytime I put up my hand to assist. I live on the Sunshine Coast - Lakeside is an option and the days its open should (?) start to increase - but whether they need flaggies etc is another thing. I'd expect to be able to commit to this once every 4-6 weeks. There should be enough to do with hillclimbs, Historics, Group C, ARC, Pittsworth, Gatton, Leyburn, Noosa etc - are these 'manned' by the likes of QMROA or another body? I'd expect the big ticket events (ie: V8's & Indy) are over subscribed with support.
Can someone point me in the right directon - I'm not ready to get straight into this as I've got a 2 door that is about to come back from the paint shop and I need to get that back on the road. Just want to look at the options and check it out beforehand.
PS - My motor racing experience is limited to a couple of Road Navigation events (with some timed car park dashes etc) - these are a good break, but I'd expect to get a little boring over time & I'd need a navigator to make a commitment (if its the wife I'd expect we'd not be on talking terms given her need to turn the map upside down and then miss the key navigation points). The car I'm putting back together is the daily driver & is being built for comfort (Air Con & 5 Speed) - not speed. I don't want to do a MaxRS - I'm going to need it to get from A to B for the rest of the week.
