Thanks Nev, that's what I wanted to know.
Must remember if the plate gets damaged in an accident to lose the car too I reckon, I'll be buggered if I would want it back if it was obvious it had been repaired

Hello Mark and Neville,
Interesting topic.
I have been asking professionals in the industry about the replacement compliance plates over the past few days.
One service manager I know well who works in a large Sydney new car dealership says they are not available. Instead a certificate is issued by the RTA.
Another contact who has been in the auto industry for over 35 years tells me that there is at least one company in Sydney who manufactures replacement compliance plates under instructions from the RTA in NSW, and he himself has used this company previously. He remembers that the compliance plates were a direct copy of the originals.
Apparently you have to jump through hoops to get them, but they are available if needed, and they do cost plenty.
I have asked my contact for the company name so we can confirm for future reference if needed.
