Clutch Failure

I was speaking to a bloke the other day who was telling me about a clutch that he had explode on him. Got me thinking, does anybody replace their pressure plate from time to time I.e. consider it has a specific lifespan? Especially you Danny with your high revving mota....

Mine had done several events before I bought it used with the engine and has done 3 with me. I probably give it a hard time too!

Solid centre or sprung? The solid centre clutch plate has been in mine since I first started to run it in 2012 with many hard launches behind it.

The plate is a paddle with springs - Extreme Clutch brand. I already replaced one friction plate due to over abusing it and causing too much play in the spring assembly - this one has done 2 events. The pressure plate is multiple events old. If a clutch lets go is it the friction plate or the pressure plate or could be either?

I wouldn't want a sprung clutch in a racecar. And to dispel the myth about the solid style being 'on or off', if it's designed properly it has no different feel to that of a normal road car.

Clutch or pressure plate can fail, i'm not sure of any way you can tell which it is without removing it. Doesn't really matter any way because you've got to pull it out regardless.
