Bent axles (not twisted)

Are there causes for bent axles other than riding kerbs ?
Are tougher axles available in Aus?
Who from ?
Does anyone here make good custom axles (bigger id bearings, separate flanges, tapered, etc) ?

Michael,
Are you currently running a full floater setup? I would seriously look at that if you're not.
I would imagine any of the big drag race fabrication shops could make you axles, spools, full floating hubs etc. What about Romac stuff, certainly seems to be the product of choice with a lot of drag racers.
As for bending axles, I've only ever known that to happen from hitting curbs. Doesn't mean it can't happen other ways though, just don't know what they may be.

Iam using standard English axles, and I use the kerbs in circuit events.
I will check out Romac - any websites?

but they only make hubs up to 6500hp. Might not be enough for the Esky

Any serious race car fabricator should be able to make up the parts necessary for a full floater. On my RS it runs am early works floater, but uses the standard axles. I'll take some photos this week for you to show you what I mean. I had new hubs made up a few years ago and they worked out at around $700 for the pair, so you could probably get away with $1000 for the lot.
Romac aren't cheap, but they are good. Take two prozac and you'll feel better in the morning

I spoke on about this ages ago.
I chuked [lathe] a bunch of escort axels and most were bent.
I ended up using MK1 Cortina ones, that i cut 0.5 inch from, as I had none left.

A final pic. This is the old hub which shows the size of the bearing now carrying the weight & stresses of the wheel/axle.
It's not like a modern full floater with your half shafts, but for the day it was quite effective.

Here you go Mike.
The hub sits in the area where the wheel bearing normally fits. There is an oil seal which sits in the inner machined circle in side the hub.
