Rear wheel bearing location in diff housing sandblasted and

Postby rally_goose » Sun Nov 27, 2016 10:11 am

Calling thinkers - obscure issue below.

Iv'e had my mk2 escort diff housing sand blasted.
The guy blasted inside the housing where the outer of the rear wheel bearings locate. It is very rough (as expected if sand blasted).

Is there any reason to get it smoothed out?
Will the o ring around the bearing tear and if it tears will it be a big issue (can it be sealed with silicone?)?
Will the rough surface affect the bearing?
If it's polished smooth whats the thoughts on if the bearing will still locate and fit correctly?

Thanks,
Ed

The O ring wont seal as well if it's course and with sandblasting it can have a bit of a shot peening effect and may dent the surface a little and the bearing maybe be too tight of a fit,
I would try fitting a bearing and either way give it a polish with some fine emery cloth to clean up the surface and it should be fine
