When running water to the plug between 3 and 4 exhaust ports is it cool water in out of the pump or hot water out back to the thermo housing ?

if you have a gueniune manual it has a good diagram of the water cooling directions and i would say that pluming the drain plug back to the water pump would get rid of the "deadspot" water in the block that would just sit there and not find a way out ???
