Inlet Manifold Porting

I have finally got around to matching the inlet manifold to the head. Currently way out which may partly explain the lack of breath at high revs.

This is a Redline brand that has a water jacket. How much meat is there for me to grind out to the outer edge of the black pen marks? There are a couple of areas that are 5mm out!

We usually open them up and then weld up the cracks and holes if you break through but they're not that big so you'll be fine

You should be opening the whole throat
Take it down to Mike Dale as it's more than just waving a die grinder around at the manifold face

All done. Took some time to make a nice progression from carby to head faces. Probably have to have another go when my 48's finally turn up (only been waiting 3 years!).

Did you do the whole length of the port?

Probably blended down 3/4 the length. I have no doubt that better flow could be achieved but what I have done will be much better than I had. There were a few crack looking bits within a couple of runners - not sure if these were thin areas or just casting flaws. Very small so no issue - probably fill them with a touch of JB Weld.

I used a short steel ruler and ran down the internals - you soon see where the high spots are. The challenge is not opening it too far up on the inside of the bends as you'll end up with a bellows style runner then. I did experiment with a series of cardboard circles 38mm to 45mm to try and ensure I kept the bore true but didn't really help.

I did exactly the same with a ruler.
