I found this thread on Ozgemini.
http://www.ozgemini.com/forums/tech/vie ... hp?t=19014Seems like a cost effective way to get around the DCOE cold start issues when compared to the weber kit
Can anyone vouch for this modification? Thanks

I got that mod from Des Hammill's book "How to build & power tune Weber & Dellorto carbs". He also suggests removing the fuel enrichment device & replacing with alloy plate.
Works fine, but do it properly - don't want grub screws in your engine!
Cheers

The cold start system is actually a whole other circuit/mini carburettor within the main body. There are more functioning parts to it that need addressing than just plugging those holes to do it properly. However, plugging the holes should certainly work, although if the rest of the system is left alone and not in good nick you could be left with minor fuel leakage out the back of the carb where the rear plate mounts. I have fitted the webber kit to mine as it IS more of a complete solution and definitely looks neater and keeps my carb cleaner. But certainly doing it that way should in theory be a perfectly acceptable solution that has under most circumstances have little to no down sides.
