Hi all,

Any recommendations for street/road pads that have good initial bite when cold?
(for Mk2 with standard brakes)

Cheers

I'm currently running bendix ultimate in the racecar. Works fine at Mt Cotton with no warm-ups and worked great at morgan park last weekend over 8 or 9 laps.

Hi Noono,

I would recommend Ferodo DS Performance FCP167P. I run them on my Sundowner. Good feel even when cold. I can supply these for $105 plus freight to forum members. I can supply any Ferodo compound as well as Hawk, Pagid, Brembo and Endless.

Can also supply Goodrich Lines. Mk2 Escort $157.5.

Trying to source a vented rotor kit as well.

10% discount on most stuff to Forum members.

Vented rotors won't improve your brakes unless you are prone to overheating them. They can also foul the tie rod ends (or at very least come damned close to them), and add unsprung mass. I took mine off for those reasons.

Vented rotors almost eliminate the problem of warped discs which small ford using solid discs have suffered from since manufacture. They also keep the brake temp a little lower enabling a cooler pad to be used which is perfect for fast road and the odd track day. Yes they add to the unsprung weight and overall weight but any user where this is critical will be in competition where the vented rotor is a must. If your rotor is fouling on the tie rod end, and they do run close, then you may have a bearing problem and I would imagine significant pad knock off.

Again it's about application. Vented rotors won't be the answer for everybody.

Cheers,

David.

Yep, I run vented rotors, definitely no tie-rod clearance problems. Solid disks melted the brakes in a few laps.
