Mk2 escort paint colour / codes
Does anyone have a list of the colours / codes for MK2 escorts over the years. Respraying soon and looking for a gun metal grey / silver colour but want to keep to a standard colour?
Thanks Nev. I only searched the forums before posting and didn't see that bit.
After narrowing down from the standard paint list, I'm looking for pictures and opinions on the following for a MK2 2 door.
1/79 onwards 4 Silver Grey
6/76 to 6/77 X Stardust Silver
Maybe even E Quick Silver from a MK1?
Or are there any other greys with odd names that aren't obvious? Using this car on carsales as an idea. I've seen another MK2 Ghia a similar colour many years ago so thought there must be a similar colour as standard? http://www.carsales.com.au/private/deta ... 10&sdmvc=1
What colour is that exactly? Given the headlights I'm thinking the colour is the 1/79 onwards '4 Silver Grey'? Its very similar to what I had in mind but with 15 inch Bathurst globes or minilights. Same rally pack spoilers, quarter bumpers and graphics (maybe?) but round headlights and spotlights on front.
It's dad's car (which he still has). I can only guess that it's the Ford silver as it was originally light blue metallic (wedgewood I think). 15's can look too big sometimes, but there's more tyres available in that size. The silver/black suits them quite well and the 13's don't look out of place.
I'm pretty sure the body codes are just a GL base model. I can't recall seeing any specific tags to say it was a rally pack as such, maybe its in the SIDO code. Dad's is an original Rally pack as he bought it form the original owner (who was talked out of buying an RS2000 which had just been released). They had a rear swaybar as standard, but I don't think that would be a positive defining feature.
GS Rallye Packs were a dealer option and could be had on any variant (except Ghia) as long as you ticked the option box (#48) and paid your money. They were not separate models and are not identifiable in any way from a standard Escort unless you have the original purchase documents.
For the record they consisted of:
Driving lamps and overriders - Sports Road Wheels - Soft feel 3 spoke steering wheel - Black nylon coated front bumperettes and rear bumper - Bold bodyside stripe running the length of the vehicle at bumper bar height.
Later on when the 2L's became readily available there was also a Sports Handling Suspension option (#68) that added different front springs and the rear sway bar. This could be had on any model.
It looks to be the same as the GS Rallye Pack option. Do you know if there are any differences?
Does anyone have a list of possible option codes for escorts? That would be really interesting. So does anyone have the brochure which is in the link above? and/or a brochure whit the GS Rallye Pack option?
Might be the 1980 version of the Rally Pack as the specs look similar. RS2000 was for sale by then so maybe the official 'Rally Pack' option wasn't available. I also though that the Rally Pack was on a GL base
The GS Rallye Pack was option code 48. Contrary to what some people say, this was a dealer fitted option and could be had on the models as specified in the attached. There was never an actual model designation code like 11718 etc.
Not sure where the option code 49 comes from as there is nothing listed for that for the MK2
I'm pretty clear on the GS Rallye Pack option code 48. This new car I have looks just like a GS Rallye Pack and according to Ford archives had option 49 Sports pack, 1980 built car. I haven't been able to verify the option 49 number anywhere else, however as per the link above there is a brochure for a Sports pack, which lists has the same add-ons as the GS Rallye Pack.
So what I'm wondering is if the name of the pack changed across the years or if there is a subtle difference in what they contain.
Anyone know about the Sports Pack & GS Rallye Pack or have a code list for MK2 escorts across the years? That would be very handy in the site archives anyway. It's very interesting having two option packs that seem identical but have different names.
1980 was the RS2000 release. I could imagine ford dropping the Rally Pack as the sporty option and focusing on trying to promote the RS2000. How did you find that yours had the 49 option?
From Ford customer service archives. I'll be getting a written report on the car and all its options. When I get it I'll post it up for reference. What you say about the RS2000 release sounds feasible. Would be great to get original options code documents for clarification though. From has very little no on it other than what they get doing a VIN search.
OK I have a Ford Cars Brochure from August 1980 and in that it lists a Ford Escort Sports Pack.
Available at extra cost on Escort L sedan and GL sedan. It comprised of: Sports steering wheel Tacho Black front spoiler Black front quarter bumpers Black window frames Black B pillars Black rear bumper Black RH exterior mirror Black decklid spoiler Black door handles
I have another from February 1979 and in that you get a Rally Pack which consisted of: Sports steering wheel Tacho Black front spoiler Black front quarter bumpers Black bodyside tape-stripes Black finish driving lights Black rear bumper Black LH & RH exterior mirrors Black decklid spoiler Black front & rear bumper overiders Black paint treatment
A Sprint Pack was a late MK2 pack (around 1980) and consisted of: Exclusive Escort monogrammed wool blend seat facings See through head restraints for the reclining front bucket seats Chromed wheel trims Console clock Bodyside striping Rear deck lid spoiler
So it would seem the Rally Pack evolved into the Sports Pack. The Sprint pack was more for show than anything else.
