What a great motor. I've seen some pics of one sitting in a MK1. The standard intake manifold is only millimetres away from the side of the engine bay. Pros and cons apart from the manifold clearance???

Oooo, I'll stay out of this
The Beams with ITB's and engine management can yield about 300hp. What does an NA cossie make with standard internals?

From all reports these are a pretty good engine, and able to support decent N/A power as well with the right mods.

All right, after a couple of years of umming and ahhhing I think this will be my pick. Front cuts look well priced complete with 6 speed and drive shaft. Custom intake manifold and winged or dry sump. I'm off to buy a lotto ticket

The 3S-GE is a NA motor - the 3S-GTE is turbo (I used a gen3 in my old MR2).
From wiki:
"The fourth generation 3S-GE, also known as the BEAMS 3S-GE began production in 1997. The first version was equipped with VVT-i and produced 200 PS (147 kW; 197 hp) at 7,000 rpm when coupled to a manual transmission."
and the later Gen 5's
"coupled with a six-speed manual came with titanium valves, battery-backed injectors and a compression ratio of 11.5:1. It made 210 PS (154 kW; 207 hp) at 7,600 rpm and 22.0 kg·m (216 N·m) at 6,400 rpm. "
all of which sounds good to me for an "out of the box" package!
