2.0 or 2.3 duratec

morning guys just a quick question i see a lot of people are fitting duratecs but i cant help noticing the 2.0 is used a lot when there is a 2.3 on the market, the 2.3 has more torque but is there any other reason?
i am trying to make up my mind on which way to go 2.3 or 2.0 duratec or of coarse the good old pinto pony!!! but a more modern and much lighter motor is winning at the moment any advice and guidance will be very appreciated.

Hi mate,

I'm not entirely sure why but a couple of reasons I can think of:

1. Most Duratec's available are 2.0 out of the Focus. The 2.3 'Ford' don't seem to be as available. Having said that the Mazda 2.3 would be readily available and are the same.

2. If you have any intention of sprinting/racing then the class split generally occurs at 2.0 L which will mean you'd race more powerful cars.

Can't recommend the Duratec more. The gift that keeps giving. You won't regret it.

Alan,

I chose the 2lt Duratec purely because it came up second hand at the right price. But looking back now it was a good decision as I now sit in the 2lt and under class. If I had a 2.3 it would have been quite a low spec but you are in with all the big spec 2.3's and 2.5's then.

Horses for courses really depending on what you want to do with it. BUT its so good to easily start an engine that just idles nicely and goes well without all the hassle of an old iron anvil with carbs!

Thanks for the reply's guys i did think it would have some thing to do with the class in racing, im still in two minds whether to race,or fast road and weekend warrior!!!so it seems its only what motor comes up first as they are both good motors but the 2.3 with a bit of work must be awesome!

Another problem maybe overall height as I believe the deck height on the 2.3L is approx 0.5" taller.

I've been looking for the 2.3 in both Ford and Mazda what do i look for is it the L3 turbo or L Mazda and what model for Ford?
dont want to buy the wrong model
